Idea Behind Pheromones

Is it true that there are certain chemical compounds that initiate action in organisms? If so what are the outcomes of these chemicals and can they also be used with humans? These were the questions posed in front of the scientific community the moment it was discovered that silk moths and bees are guided in their life with chemical signatures released by each individual member of the colony. Such chemical compounds were termed as pheromones. However, this term was already present in the ancient languages and was earlier used to describe the attracting power of scents and perfumes.
The questions are all legit and have quite far reaching answers. Yes, it is true that pheromones can control the life cycle of organisms driving them to do things which they would not normally do but humans seem to be immune to this natural response system. The most likely reason for this is that humans are too evolved to be affected at the neural or sensory level.
