Linux Hosting/Pros and Cons of Linux Hosting
Perhaps the most well known reason why people choose Linux hosting over its Windows based counterpart is that its significantly cheaper. Being an open source operating system, Linux does not burden its users too much with licensing and other fees that a commercial product like Windows would impose.
But the real benefit with Linux hosting lies in the fact that its open source. This allows basic and advanced web hosts alike to do pretty much what they want because Linux is very versatile. With an exception to Windows-exclusive features, Linux can pretty much run on any popular database like MySQL, mSQL, and PostgreSQL.
The only downside of linux hosting is that you wont be able to do much within the Microsoft Windows sphere. So if you think that youll be working with lots of features and technologies that are exclusive to Windows, then you might not want to do Linux hosting. Otherwise, youll experience lots of compatibility issues. Theres a chance that some Windows services will work under Linux hosting, but thats a risk that youll have to weigh in.
